Level 3 - Theory and Process in Sand Tray Play Therapy (13 ce hrs.)

Prerequisite - Sand Tray Play Therapy Levels 1 & 2 at Center for Sand Tray Play, or approved comparable training

Level 3 focuses on advanced theory and process leading to sharpened clinical skills in facilitating Sand Tray Play Therapy with individuals and groups.  Through directed and non-directed building experiences, group process & discussion, and case study material, participants will explore the multidimensional nature of the sand tray process through various lenses including the foundational theory of Margaret Lowenfeld, developmental theories, and group process.
                     
Goal   To sharpen clinical skills and deepen theoretical perspectives regarding the process of sand tray play therapy with children, adults, individuals and groups.

Objectives  Workshop participants will be able to

  1. explain the foundational theory of Margaret Lowenfeld, and its expression in the process of sand tray play 

  2. identify the multidimensional aspects involved in the experience of sand tray play

  3. demonstrate skills for facilitating and witnessing therapeutic sand tray play using the multidimensionality of experience for deepened attunement

  4. list 6 theories that can be used to understand developmental themes in sand tray play

  5. identify the expression of various developmental stages in the sand tray play of children and adults

  6. demonstrate skills for witnessing therapeutic sand tray play using developmental themes for deepened attunement

  7. describe 2 general approaches to using sand tray play with a group of 2 or more people

  8. explain 4 applications of group sand tray process
