Level 2 - Symbols and Themes in Sand Tray Play Therapy (13 ce hrs.)

Prerequisite   Sand Tray Play Therapy Level 1 at Center for Sand Tray Play, or approved comparable training.

Level 2 builds upon and refines the basic skills learned in Level I, as well as explores the theory and practice of sand tray play therapy in more depth with particular attention to the use of symbols, stories and themes in the sand tray process.  Through both directed and non-directed building exercises, participants will deepen their attunement skills as witnesses of the sand tray process in the context of their play therapy practice.
                                                                  
Goal  To refine and sharpen the basic witnessing skills for deeper attunement during the process of sand tray play therapy with children and adults.

Objectives Workshop participants will be able to

1.     explain the importance of attunement in sand tray play therapy

2.     identify and apply the 5 lines of attunement in a sand tray play therapy session

3.     list the observable and abstract aspects of symbols and figures

4.   use the various aspects of symbols and figures as a vehicle of attunement during a sand tray session

5.   describe and utilize a system of visual themes for attunement during a sand tray session and for tracking of progress across sessions

6.   identify subject themes present in a sand tray session and use them to enhance attunement during a session

7.   demonstrate the skills for facilitating and witnessing  therapeutic sand tray play with deepened attunement  through the use of symbols and themes

8.   describe options for note-taking and recording the content of a sand tray play therapy session

9.   explain 3 specific applications and variations of sand tray play in the context of their therapy practice
