Level I explores the fundamental theory, skills, tools, and methods of sand tray play therapy for children and adults.  Hands-on experiences allow participants to explore the various elements of the sand tray process.  Through building and witnessing individual sand tray worlds, participants will be able to develop and practice basic skills for incorporating sand tray play therapy into their practice.

Prerequisite

Prior experience with the sand tray is helpful but not necessary.

Goals

1.  To experience the process of sand tray play therapy.
2.  To develop the basic skills for using sand tray play therapy with both children and adults.

Objectives

Workshop participants will

1.      learn historical and theoretical perspectives on sand tray play therapy
2.      learn guiding principles for the practice of sand tray play therapy
3.      experience the dynamics of figures and symbols in the sand tray process
4.      develop the basic methods and skills of sand tray play therapy
5.      explore ways to begin incorporating sand tray play therapy into their own practice.
